Wolvercote Primary School Library
Our new library space: a woodland reading den for all
Wolvercote Primary School is strongly committed to promoting reading for pleasure and raising confident readers and writers. We are thrilled to have a brand new library that will allow us to fully support and encourage a love of reading in our pupils!
With generous donations from parents and friends of the school, the PTA has worked with parent volunteers to create a beautiful new space.
The new library offers:
-
a larger, quieter environment, set apart from busy circulation
-
comfortable seating and relaxation areas
-
a fluid design that is easier to navigate and more enjoyable to use
-
a gorgeous mural, where pupils can spot all the class animals
-
special reading and work areas for neurodivergent pupils and those receiving extra support.
The new library is already in use, and the PTA will continue to improve the space with:
-
additional book storage
-
extra furniture
-
an enhanced collection of books, across a range of genres and reading stages.
If you would like to support this continued development, you can:
-
donate a book from our library wish list
-
support our fundraising by donating or encouraging others to donate
We are excited about our new library system, Libresoft, which is easy to use by staff as well as children. Our library catalogue includes over 3,000 titles, which you can now search online.
Books in our library are organised into the following categories:
-
Fiction – split by early readers, newly confident readers and very confident readers
-
Non-fiction – covering all sorts of topics from history, natural sciences, geography, religion, biography and others
-
Picture books – we have a rich selection for our youngest readers
-
Graphic novels – a very popular category which is constantly growing
-
Poetry – this is a section we are currently focussing on developing.
Each month we have a school-wide focus on a particular author, with a display featuring their books and some information about them. You can view previous authors of the month here: Author of the month
